An important part of Kuarup is the huka-huka wrestling matches. Opponents face each other, imitating the grunting of the jaguar. Matches are brief, often lasting a few seconds, and end when one of the opponents is thrown to the ground. A representative of the host village confronts an adversary of each invited village, one at a time, beginning with matches of their champions and ending with novice matches. The invited villages do not wrestle among themselves, only with opponents of the host village.
