Si Phan Don (Four Thousand Islands) is a group of islands in the Mekong River in Southern Laos. In the dry season there is so little water around the southern part of the Mekong River, it is said that if all the sand banks and islets are counted there would be over 4,000 islands (hence the name). Khong Island or Don Khong is the largest island and the seat of administration in the Si Phan Don riverine archipelago located in the Mekong River, Khong District, Champasak Province, southern Laos. Khong Island is noted for its natural beauty and is a growing tourist destination. Many tourists combine their visit to the island with a visit to nearby Don Det and Don Khon islands, where it is possible to view the Khone Phapheng Falls.
