Northern Vietnam is full of culture and natural wonders. Much of the region is wild and inaccessible, yet it contains some of Vietnam’s most awe-inspiring scenery, sparsely populated by a fascinating mosaic of ethnic minorities. This is Vietnam's big-sky country; a place of rippling mountains and cascading rice terraces.Northern Vietnam (Vietnamese: Miền Bắc) is one of the three geographical regions within Vietnam. Of the three geographical regions, the oldest is Northern Vietnam, where the Vietnamese culture originated over 2,000 years ago in the Red River Delta. Northern Vietnam gets fewer visitors than Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and the coastal cities in the south, but it's full of culture. Historically, and to this day, it has been significantly poorer than the southern part of the country. Cultural and political differences remain strong.
