Bjachung Baup

Garuda mask carved from a piece of semi-hard wood, painted with mineral color paints and dyes. Several forms are traditionally used in the dances of Bhutan during festivals and occasions, and can also be kept as a decorative item in one’s home.
The Bjachung or garuda ‘the devourer’ is the mythical ‘Lord of Birds’ in both the hindu and Buddhist traditions.
